A thick mint and coriander dahi dip for chilla, wraps and vegetable platters, with no blender required.

Best for: Chilla platters, sandwiches and vegetable wraps.

Estimated time: 15 minutes using prepared hung dahi · Yield: 4 dip portions. Uses finished yogurt; no additional fermentation.

Ingredients · Method · Storage

Ingredients

  • 250 g prepared hung dahi or plain thick Greek-style yogurt
  • 10 g fresh pudina (mint) leaves, finely chopped
  • 15 g fresh dhania (coriander) leaves, finely chopped
  • 5 ml lemon juice, optional
  • 1 g roasted jeera (cumin) powder
  • 1 g salt, or less to taste

Method

  1. Wash the herbs and dry them well before chopping.
  2. Stir the hung dahi with mint, coriander, jeera and salt.
  3. Taste before adding the optional lemon juice; tangy dahi may need none.
  4. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until serving.

Alternatives for your kitchen

Fresh cilantro means coriander leaves; mint means pudina. Use 25 g coriander if mint is unavailable. For a dairy-free variation, choose a thick plain unsweetened soy yogurt and adjust lemon to taste.

Serving suggestions

Spread into a vegetable wrap or serve alongside moong chilla. For a thinner dressing, stir in 15–30 ml chilled drinking water.

Nutrition tip

A dip can help bring more vegetables into a snack. Serve with cucumber and carrot sticks, and compare yogurt labels if protein content matters to you.

Storage

Cover and refrigerate promptly. Follow the yogurt label’s storage instructions and use clean utensils. Prepare on the day of serving for the best texture; keep chilled during transport.

Allergens

Contains milk when made with dairy yogurt. Soy alternatives contain soy. Check labels for every ingredient and substitute.

Questions

Can I blend the herbs?

You can, but chopping keeps the dip thick and gives visible flecks of herbs. Blending may loosen the yogurt.

Is Greek-style yogurt the same as hung dahi?

They can work similarly in this dip because both may be thick. Flavour, ingredients and protein content vary, so check the product you use.

Make the yogurt base at home

Choose Zoh’s Greek yogurt guide for a creamy base or the Bulgarian yogurt guide for everyday dahi-style meals. Use the finished, chilled yogurt in this recipe; do not add starter powder directly to the dish.
